DASG Officers
DASG President
and DASG Vice President
Ticket 1
Lydia Wong
DASG President
Through my experience as a DASG senator, and more importantly, as a student, I believe governance and the college must progress in implementing better and more noticeable communication, transparency, and equitable representation in college governance processes. Student voices must be adequately and accurately represented and amplified in decision making processes. Having been involved in the DASG Marketing and Communications committee for over a year, as an intern and currently the vice chair, I have noticed that students are frequently unaware and uninvolved in college governance processes. Further, many students struggle with issues that members of the administration and faculty are ill-informed about, such as those related to availability and quality of counseling and support for transfer, academic preparation and flexibility, and basic needs and services. I hope to be able to build off my work in not only sharing opportunities for student representation, but building an accessible, clear path for each and every student's voice to be heard. I aim to promote diversity and equity in the Senate for the improvement of the campus through greater outreach and provide opportunities for any student to be able to make a difference on campus.
Isaac Tsang
DASG Vice President
I believe there are many improvements that can be made in this community. From decreasing charging prices for Electric Vehicles, to improving ease of access in printing, such small yet positive impacts can make student life better at the college, achieving the Student Government's role of advocating for students and improving the college life experience. One important goal, if I were to be elected, is to promote and increase accessibility to opportunities. Having experienced myself, I recognize it is enormously difficult for us to intern or get research opportunities - an important opportunity many pursue in the College. I seek to advocate for the establishment of an institute, similar to the Science Learning Institute at Foothill that can provide much needed services to the students at De Anza. I believe my management and leadership skills stand out particularly. Serving as the Vice-Chair of Program & Events, I have an impactful role on Final DeStress Week and Measure G Student Forum. I believe my experience can bring valuable insights to the Student Government. If elected, I am confident I, with my partner, will advocate continually for the benefit of De Anza Students, creating a brighter future for all.
Ticket 2
Jennifer Ulloa De La Torre
DASG President
My name is Jennifer Ulloa De La Torre and I'm running to be your DASG President. I'm running because I have a vision on how to improve the connection between the government and student body. I've been a community organizer for five years, where I've represented people at a local, state, and national level. I'm currently an environmental justice intern at VIDA, where I put the health of the student body at the forefront. I also serve as a Public Policy School intern, where we advocate for bills concerning the California Community Colleges through legislative visits with policy makers. Through my time with DASG, I have brought forth innovative ideas and creative solutions. I have funneled outside programs like the Food Pantry, Athletics department, and clubs into DASG spaces. By giving everyone a seat at the table, we aim for DASG to more accurately represent the student body. We want you to feel safe enough to come to us with your concerns, no matter what group you're a part of. When students feel heard, we can concentrate our efforts toward the beautification of campus, improved allocation of funds, and making the community college process easier for you. Thank you.
Maya Lewis
DASG Vice President
Hello, my name is Maya Lewis and I am running for the position of Vice President. I'm running because I love De Anza and want to make it my duty to serve you in the best way possible. I am passionate, motivated, and open-minded. My heart lies in my work and school. My actions at De Anza are rooted in the abundance of love I have for education, which no words do justice for. I am a political science major and community organizer, with experience working in social justice. During my college career, I have worked with internships such as VIDA and Public Policy School, as well as being a part of DASG's equity and diversity committee. I have met such wonderful students, staff, and faculty and would like to show my appreciation by giving back to the student body, as your Vice President. I love being able to uplift student voices. I want to make sure everyone is heard! I give my all to the current positions I hold and am ready to dedicate my all to this one! I will make sure you have a government that is transparent, diligent, trustworthy, accessible, and reliable. Thank you.
Ticket 3
Jason Vu
DASG President
De Anza is such a great, exceptional, and connected school. No other campus is diverse like ours; we have students and professors from all different backgrounds. With that, my goal is to maximize the potential of our great campus by improving everything here - especially the social aspect. Generally, many students dislike how limited the interaction opportunities are in community colleges; however, since we are such a distinctive community, I will ensure to not waste our diversity. I will provide more opportunities for all to make new, and important connections by creating and promoting friendly events where everyone can safely attend. As students, we once were all new, shy, and confused coming to campus - I want to prioritize that incoming students have all their questions clarified through social media or on-campus events, so they don't get misguided towards their goal when they leave. With a leadership background through academics and athletics, I am confident and committed to make De-Anza greater than it was when I first arrived. We, as a campus, have so much potential that I'd hate to see it go to waste - it is my mission to make De Anza great. Go Mountain-Lion family!
Jin Kim
DASG Vice President
As a trailblazer and a first-generation American, I am eager to bring my unique perspective and unwavering passion to the role of Vice President at De Anza College. With over 2 years of experience in higher education and a commitment to empowering students, I am confident that I have the skills and dedication needed to excel in this position. At De Anza, I have seen the profound impact education can have on individuals and communities. Higher education should be accessible and affordable to all, regardless of their background, and I am committed to making this a reality. I see this role as an opportunity to not only serve my community but to also blaze a trail for future generations. As Vice President, I will bring a fresh, out-of-the-box approach to the position, leveraging my diverse experiences of leadership and unique perspective to tackle the challenges facing higher education today. I am excited at the prospect of joining the De Anza student government and contributing to its mission of providing students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed in today's rapidly changing world. Thank you for considering my candidacy!

As a student, I am running for chair of finance in college because I am passionate about ensuring the financial stability and success of our student organizations and activities. I have a strong background in finance and budgeting, and I believe that my skills and experience will be invaluable in this role. I am committed to using my knowledge of finance to create a budget that is both effective and efficient. DASG Chair of Finance
We all know the saying, 'If you want to make a change out there, you must make a change within.' The same applies to our student body and the funds that DASG is using to improve our college experience. My name is Aaron Mundanilkunathil, and I am running to be the Chair of Finance at DASG. I have held multiple positions in financial management for various organizations, from being the Vice President of Finance for my high school speech and debate team of 400 members to working as an Associate Level Financial and Tech Analyst at a fintech company. My goal with DASG is to find ways to diversify and more effectively spend our allotted General Budget and create a streamlined system to give the student government more freedom to host events. I hope that by improving the club's internal financial operations, DASG can make a greater impact on student life at De Anza.

Elden Sim
DASG Chair of Finance
I want to run for Chair of Finance to improve student life and the community around us. My goals are to ensure appropriate management of DASG finances and accounting as well as meaningfully contribute to DASG as much as I can. I come from a family business background, where I have learnt from my parents about crucial skills such as bookkeeping, budgeting and finance. I am now majoring in economics at De Anza, previously having studied business management and economics for more than 4 years. Furthermore, I had also spent 9 months after high-school taking accounting courses. As MASA's treasurer, I have thorough experience of and expertise handling financial matters for a student-led organization. I have been an executive officer at ISC, one of the biggest international clubs on campus, for over a year, where I oversee planning and delivery of numerous events, and represent our club at ICC meetings. These positions provide me confidence in my ability to effectively lead and collaborate with a team as well as transition into different roles as needed. Being a trustworthy and prudent person with logical planning, I believe those skills are an excellent fit for this job at DASG.

Izat Rasyad
DASG Chair of Finance
Creating a tangible impact in my community is something I personally found really cool. From high school student council president to DASG finance senator, I have always found ways to fulfill this passion. As a finance senator, I have contributed to the budget deliberation process where we allocated DASG's budget for the 2023-2024 academic year. I also sit on the Programs and Allocations committee where we recommend the allocation of resources at the college level. I believe that my experiences and familiarity with the budget deliberation process have well-prepared me for the responsibilities that come with being the Chair of the Finance Committee. My goal as the Chair of Finance would not just be to allocate resources efficiently but to make decisions that prioritize students' college life experience. I would advocate for the institutionalization of funding for essential services, such as tutoring, and opportunities for success for the entirety of De Anza's diverse student body at the community college level.

Hannah Rabbani
DASG Chair of Student Rights and Equity
As an international student, I understand the challenges my peers may face when it comes to presenting themselves as unique individuals and advocating for their own rights within the student body. In spite of one's origins or socioeconomic standing, every person has a unique voice that should be celebrated as a source of their inherent strength; however, not everyone is offered the opportunity to express their concerns. In the upcoming school year, I hope to use my leadership roles as head girl of my high school, president of Active Minds at De Anza, and public relations officer of the Pakistani Student Association at De Anza to speak up for students who don't feel represented on campus and to inspire greater student engagement. Collaboration with clubs and programs to host events and workshops regarding aspects of inclusivity, voting for links between emerging fields and those that attract a more diverse enrollment, and increasing the use of data and primary sources to give students more agency in formulating their own ideas are ways to achieve my aim. Vote for Hannah Rabbani as DASG Chair of Student Rights and Equity! Thank you :)

I want to join DASG because I believe it's a great opportunity to positively impact the lives of the people in the De Anza community, especially those who have been underrepresented in the past or are currently struggling with feeling underrepresented. The main goal I wish to accomplish as a DASG Officer is to become a person that other students can approach with concerns or problems they are faced with and advocate for their issues. I also hope to continue in building a community that is overall more supportive to our current and incoming students. I've participated in many group orientated projects and consider myself a great team member. I will always make an effort to collaborate with fellow officers to work towards making De Anza an inclusive place for all.

Katelyn Khieu
DASG Chair of Marketing
My goal as De Anza's chair of marketing and communications is to focus on various social media platforms. These platforms will provide inclusive, reliable, and quick information to keep people up to date on all activities and upcoming events. In the future, I plan to spotlight several organizations to represent and celebrate De Anza's students on official platforms. Having gone from intern to senator in marketing and communications, I have a thorough knowledge of how to market events and a clear understanding of how delegations work within the committee. It is important to me that student voices are heard and represented throughout the media. To ensure that posts are engaging and reflect what students seek, I work closely with students and listen intently to feedback. Furthermore, I experiment with different forms of content so that information will reach students as easily as possible. By collaborating with fellow senators, we were able to work on Instagram posts and kick-start short-form video content. Through knowledgeable leadership, open feedback, and direct posts, I am confident that De Anza's marketing and communication committee will thrive. For any questions, suggestions, or concerns, feel free to reach me at katelyn.khieu@gmail.com.

My ideal vision for DASG is to have a student government for all students and their voices at De Anza. Hence, my goal is to increase student representation/involvement in DASG, as marketing chair I would seek students' opinions or concerns about events. Furthermore, I would be an excellent candidate for DASG Marketing Chair as I have experience in the Marketing, Legislative Affairs, and Programs and Events committees. Also, I can bring the leadership experience I have had as an officer for clubs and translate it to the marketing chair. Overall, I feel like I am the ideal candidate for the Marketing Chair position due to the experience I bring to the table as well as my end goal to improve our De Anza Student Government.

As someone who has always been interested in marketing, I would love the opportunity to take on a leadership role within my department and help the college advance. If I were to get promoted to the department chair, I could put my experience and education to good use and make a real difference in the lives of others. I feel I have what it takes to head the marketing department successfully, including the creativity, leadership, and teamwork qualities necessary to develop cutting-edge marketing strategies that appeal to a wide range of students. And I'd love to work with area companies to bring interesting activities to campus and open doors for my fellow students to meet members of the community. As the department chair of marketing, I am positive that I have what it takes to lead the team effectively and create a positive impact.

Community - “ a group of people with shared values, interest, or geological location.” As of now, I feel that De Anza College' s community is only that of a geological location. Events are one of the best ways to form and build up a strong community. My goals running for Chair of Events, would be for the De Anza Student Government to play a more active role on campus. After my term, I would like for all students to have a strong sense of community. My previous experiences in events had been participating and organizing in charity events.

Asiya Shaikh
DASG Chair of Programs
Hey everyone, my name is Asiya Shaikh and I am a first-year Economics major. I would love the opportunity to serve as your DASG Chair of Programs for a few reasons. The first is that, especially as a first year, I have personally seen and understood the distance between DASG and its students. By being your Chair of Programs, I would be able to help bridge this gap by taking the lead on planning events that tailor to your wants and needs. I would like to host events that students want to see but also events that get De Anza students actively involved and help De Anza develop a welcoming and open sense of community. Currently, I am a DASG Senator serving on the Environmental Sustainability Committee, where I am helping plan an Earth Week/Day, and, more recently, the Programs and Events Committee, where I am helping plan a De Anza Cultural Event. Being on both these committees, I believe I have a unique experience that has trained me for what the role encompasses. Thank you for reading my statement and I hope you consider voting me as your Chair of Programs!

De Anza College Student Trustee
Coming here for my second quarter after doing one from India, I have been welcomed by many people. As an extrovert, I find that I am always eager to meet people. Having been a part of my school student council from 2021-2022 I strive to be the liaison between faculty and students. I have held positions of responsibility—organising school, volunteering and academic events. I hope to make a positive impact on the students of De Anza by being both their voice and the wings on their back. I'd like to have a forum for new students to be able to meet online and in–person to get to know each other – both international and local. In a community college, I find connecting with everyone is a big challenge and I'd like to bridge that gap by introducing more chat forums and regular emails from the student trustee. I have previously been a head in my school newsletter. My position included delegating responsibilities, understanding and reaching out to the students who committed to working with us, and interviewing persons of interest. Through my position as a communicator, I have learnt that being empathetic and confident helps others trust in me.

If I, Rachel Yi, were to become the De Anza Student Trustee, I will strive to increase student involvement across campus activities and events, in addition to supporting the success of transfer students and students who wish to stay at De Anza for a longer period of time. After noticing that most students in school were coming and going with the simple goal of completing credits, I wanted to endorse school events and to help students find the beauty and appeal in our school. With countless experiences in PR and as the current Public Relations officer of Marketing and Communications in the De Anza Student Government, I have experience being in the flow of information which aids me with new perspectives. These unique views advocate for my credibility and reliability. I promise to not only listen, but act on the student body's concerns and requests and fulfill them to the best of my ability. I wish for every colleague to have a memorable and enjoyable time here at De Anza.

Because I am a comfortable and efficient note-taker, I am confident that I have the skills to communicate the information gained at Trustee Meetings with the DASG President. I also have experience as a DASG Senator on the Equity and Diversity Committee, so I am already comfortable speaking up for students and advocating for student needs on campus. As a DSS, EOPS, and first-generation college student on the Cal Promise Grant, I know from lived experience that there are a lot of factors that influence college life and student needs. De Anza College Student Trustee
Progressing as an important voice in the Finance Committee, being promoted to a senator, and joining the Program Allocation and Legislative Affairs Committees, I found my purpose in DASG—to help schools not just on the college-level, but also the district-level, the state-level, and beyond. My goal as the student trustee is to advance a mission of student accessibility onto De Anza College and other community colleges. Although I can progress this mission on the college-level as a DASG senator, I earn access to more privileges as the student trustee. For example, by attending trustee-specific conferences, I can learn from other schools and bring back information to De Anza to help improve the quality of student campus life. One potential project I hope to advocate for on the college level is the support of the arts department. Having experience as a cellist over the course of eight years, being a co-president of De Anza's music club, as well as having a connection to the arts community at De Anza via the arts department, I have a passion for music. I can support the arts so they can continue to access the classes and events they enjoy should Measure G go forward.
