From the President

Happy New Year

Jan. 4, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to winter quarter, and Happy New Year. I hope that each of you found time to relax and re-energize over the break. I'm sure the time off was much needed, and I know it was well deserved.

This new year is filled with hope, particularly for health -- for continued improvement in the prevention, treatment and management of COVID-19. There is also much hope for the health of the economy, particularly for the safe return to more normal operations for businesses, small and large, that previously employed so many. As you know, many of our students were affected by job loss -- yet another reason that basic needs resources and emergency grants remain vital. Please do refer students to deanza.edu/resources for assistance.

One hope I know will be realized is the continued success of De Anza College. As noted on Opening Day, this year we will begin strategic planning, which represents exciting possibilities for the work of the college, and how we think about it and implement it to benefit our students. In 2021, our commitment to the review of shared governance remains. Our commitment to respect and acknowledgement for our colleagues remains. As always, our commitment to equity remains.

I look forward to seeing many of you next Monday at 1 p.m. for the first winter quarter Conversation and Q&A with Senior Staff. As before, we welcome any questions you have, and will share some thoughts and information -- next week, some interesting findings from our Facilities Master Plan survey.

All the best for a wonderful Online Winter 2021.

With appreciation,
Lloyd
