Fall Club Day This Thursday

club day groupThe Inter Club Council (ICC) is hosting fall Club Day this Thursday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Main Quad. Over 50 student clubs and organizations will be tabling at the event. Please contact the ICC chair of programs at ICCPrograms@deanza.edu if you have any questions.

Silicon Valley Automotive Technology Career Day

men with automotive tireThe California New Car Dealers Association will host the Silicon Valley Automotive Technology Career Day for high school students at De Anza on Friday, Oct. 25, from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., in E-1. The event will connect students with the Auto Tech program and other industry names such as BMW, Kia, Ford, New Car Dealers Association San Diego County, Silicon Valley Auto Dealers Association and more. College students can attend the noon-2 p.m. portion of the event, but must register in advance.


Diwali Celebrations

Cupertino Festival This Saturday

The Cupertino Chamber of Commerce is holding a Diwali celebration this Saturday, Oct. 12, in Memorial Park from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Diwali is a festival of lights, celebrated by people around the world to honor the spiritual victory of knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.

There will be food, music, dancing, arts and crafts, a kids’ zone and a traditional Rangoli display. Admission is free and you can park for free in Lots A and B on campus. See the chamber website for more information.

Everyone’s invited to the De Anza Diwali celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Main Quad from 2:30-5:30 p.m. This campus cultural event will include food, dancing, music and more. Learn more by visiting deanza.edu/apasa/diwali, where you can sign up to attend or volunteer to help out!


Honors and Achievements

Campus Democracy Challenge

bronze campus awardDe Anza has received a bronze campus award from ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for reaching a 20-29% student voting rate in the last Congressional mid-term elections, according to the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement report from Tufts University. Special thanks to the Democratic Engagement Action Plan leadership team members Cynthia Kaufman, director of Vasconcellos Institute for Democracy in Action (VIDA), and Mallory Newell, director of Institutional Research and Planning.

Journalism Students Sharing Knowledge

journalism students smilingDe Anza journalism students shared their knowledge with hundreds of high school students from around the state during the annual NorCal Media Day, sponsored by the Journalism Education Association of Northern California and held at Palo Alto High School recently. Staffers from La Voz News helped run two workshops to demonstrate techniques for interviewing public officials and candidates, which they demonstrated with Congressional candidate Sam Liccardo and a campaign representative for candidate Evan Low.
