Accreditation Process: 2017-2018

De Anza College's accreditation was reaffirmed by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) in January 2018. As part of that process, De Anza produced a comprehensive Institutional Self-Evaluation Report that was drafted by governance groups with collegewide input. The college also hosted an evaluation team from the ACCJC, which visited the campus on Oct. 9-12, 2017.

The evaluation team held more than 30 meetings with individuals and groups on campus and at the Foothill-De Anza Community College District offices. Team members spoke with faculty members, classified professional staff, administrators and students during their visit. In addition, the team held two "Open Forum" meetings for the college community as a whole and presented a preliminary "exit report" at an open meeting on the last day of the visit.

Summary of the Self-Evaluation Process

During this accreditation cycle, the College Planning Committee served as the Accreditation Steering Committee to guide the college through the self-evaluation process and prepare for the site visit by the ACCJC team.

As part of the self-evaluation, the college examined its programs and activities in the context of ACCJC Standards and Eligibility Requirements, producing a comprehensive report. This report included extensive evidence and concludes with a Quality Focus Essay that identifies plans and projects for future improvement.

At the steering committee’s recommendation, College Council approved assigning individual shared governance groups to draft sections of the Institutional Self-Evaluation Report, drawing on their representative membership and areas of expertise. A complete list of the Standards assignments can be found in the Accreditation Reference Guide listed above.

The steering committee was responsible for compiling the sections into one document, drafting the Quality Focus Essay, soliciting feedback from the campus community, and incorporating the feedback into the final draft of the ISER. The ISER was approved by College Council on June 1 and by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District board of trustees on June 12.
